Paint is a thin, brittle film and it does not stretch the way metal does. A rod pressed into the back of a panel can lift a low spot back toward flat, but the paint on the front must travel with it. Reading the reflection before any tool moves tells us how much travel the finish can tolerate, where the crown of the dent sits, and whether a glue pull will be gentler than a push. That first minute of study is the difference between a repair that disappears and one that trades a dent for a dimple.
We work under a movable light stand that sweeps across the panel at a low angle. From behind the light, the panel looks like a mirror that has been bent, and the reflection lines bend with it. A trained eye reads those lines the way a mechanic reads a gauge. Every service we offer depends on that reading, from a single door ding to a full hood of hail craters, and it is why our estimates are based on panel shape rather than on a flat price per dent.
Steel and aluminum are different animals. Steel holds a memory of its original shape and will often return most of the way once the tension is released. Aluminum work-hardens as it bends, so an overworked area stiffens and resists correction. Our bench separates rods, tips and glue tabs by material so the wrong tool never lands on the wrong panel. When a repair reaches the limit of what paintless methods can do safely, we stop and explain the alternatives rather than pushing a panel past its tolerance.
Northern Utah PDR LLC is a small shop by choice. Two technicians, one bench, and a schedule that leaves time to read instead of rush. We take walk-in inspections during business hours, and most hail work can be scheduled within a few days once the storm season settles. If you are driving through Tooele with a fresh dent, call +12319772350 and we will tell you honestly whether it is a candidate for paintless work.
